This adapter converts the connector and powers you Audi antenna booster. with a little twist. This was more of a process for me, but in the end I have near perfect radio reception and key fob reception. So i suppose the mystery of these poorly engineered antenna boosters continues. I know there are multiple threads on here already about some of this, but decided to this anyway. I did a bit of investigating myself and tore off the rubber cover to find that there were almost no electrical components contained within the cover and i couldnt' see what the crack had ruptured (if anything). The worst part is that they are around $300 new (i got mine from manguyen for $100, thanks!). I've heard of multiple attempts to try and fix these boosters and not a single success story. ![]() If you see a crack, then you need to replace the antenna booster. I dont think the antenna amplifier - which is said to be located in the headliner near the middle-top. ![]() When first installed, I lost all AM reception and FM is miserable - previous reception from my stock/OEM, non-bose Audi radio was excellent. I design and build circuit boards, so I could repair it if I had a schematic. This doesn't really need a DIY because it's simple but for those people that have poor radio reception and don't know why, hopefully this helps them out a bit. A copper wire inserted into the antenna receptor works great so I know the radio is functioning. The plugged in antenna cable in the back of the radio is not giving me any signal boost. I replaced it with an identical booster which I have positioned and connected correctly. But that rubber is impossible to remove without damaging more parts. The antenna booster in my A4 stopped functioning a while ago. I carefully peeled back some of the rubber and found at least one surface-mount component had been pulled apart by the shrinkage of the rubber. It is not a simple "antenna booster", although depending on where you're located, a simple booster might work.Īpparently, a common problem is that the rubber that encases the electronics crack and damages the board. Unfortunately, the fix is a new antenna amp, which from the dealer is 250. The antenna amp is located at the top of the rear window, behind the plastic trim (which just prys off). The radio sends signals to the amplifier to switch between the 2 antennas, and then chooses whichever one gives the best signal. My AM radio reception dropped off considerably when the antenna amplifier failed on my 2002 A4. Two are for antennas and one is a data/power wire. You'll see a black rectangular box clipped to the rear window, and 3 coax connectors.
